Pros

It is an online gig.

Cons

I half heartedly applied there after the Chinese online tutoring industry collapse. The company is fairly new and it seems like they still have a lot of things to figure out. Their minimum hour requirement is NOT flexible. They require 44-46 hours a week, 8 hours a day Monday through Friday and four or six additional hours on Saturday something quite unheard of in the Online ESL industry. Their onboarding process is lengthy and mind-numbing. They advertise a "paid training" only to let you know you will only get paid if you complete it and it is paid in two installments a month after you are certified with them. They will call you an independent contractor while shirking the responsibility of giving coaches any benefits. They will micromanage every single one of your classes. You will conduct the lesson over zoom and you must have one of those ugly zoom virtual backgrounds. You're also expected to teach the lesson with an over-the-top bubbly attitude and you are required to speak with a high-pitched voice or the kids "will get bored." And it is truly exhausting, now imagine doing that for 8 hours straight, Monday through Saturday. From what I see, most teachers not only aren't qualified but most of them don't even have any teaching experience at all. But by far, the worst part of it is that they pay less than peanuts, $5 per hour before taxes! The lowest pay I've seen in the Online ESL industry.

Pros

I love working here because I can teach from the comfort of my home or anywhere I go. The work environment is excellent, they care not only about the quality of your work but also about how you feel while doing it. They are always asking how they can support you in achieving better results, and they even provide space to openly share your thoughts about any challenges you may be facing.

Cons

I guess the only con is that if you have many classes in a row, your eyes can get a bit tired from staring at the screen for too long. However, with discipline and healthy habits, you can easily take care of that, as well as your voice, which of course you’ll be using quite a lot. Still, the company really supports us by offering “Expert Talks,” where we even get to help choose the topics. External experts are then invited to share valuable tips on a wide range of subjects, which makes the experience even more enriching.
