Becoming corporate in the worst ways - Teacher Ensemble Music Employee Review

Pros

If you’re a teacher, it’s the usual pros of teaching- I love my students, I enjoy my coworkers.

Cons

I have been disappointed repeatedly. I was promised to move up- that was 3 years ago. I was on salary but they pushed to get me off (though they kept the male employee working fewer days on salary). They are now requiring teachers be available from 3:30-7:30. They are fine if I get rid of my 2:30-3:30 students but I’m not allowed off at 7. They’d rather me not teach at all instead of getting off at 7, which means work life balance is pretty bad. You won’t get paid for all things you’re required to attend. I used to love it here, but it’s getting more corporate and rigid in idiotic ways.

Pros

- flexible work hours - each individual school gets to manage itself mostly - benefits are good for the amount of hours - chance to progress career internally - great place to work if you care about music and performing arts culture

Cons

- base pay is low; there is some room for raises but not by much - a lot of customer service involved as you will also be working front desk, can be a pro but this is up to the individual's preference - will be asked to take on many roles
