Pros

Epic provides great starting salary and benefits to young professionals (average age of position is somewhere in the early to mid 20s). They trust employees and put them in influential positions with lots of responsibility. This is a great place to start your career; you develop highly transferable management skills and learn to deal with stress, deadlines, how to communicate with C suite executives and manage a project from start to finish. The community is very kind and helpful, the culture is around open doors and utilizes the motto 'it takes a village' to install the software -- you need to reach out for help when you are stuck, this is expected and there are support networks designed to help you with your questions, however it is expected that you complete research through internal resources first.

Cons

The expectations and responsibilities of the position are unreasonable for long term success and happiness in the role. There is a high turnover rate due to stress and a lack of work/life balance. Obviously some people are better at dealing with this than others, however all implementors feel overwhelmed. Travel can get out of hand, being on the road for 6, 7, 8 weeks straight in extreme situations.Healthcare is a very stressful and demanding field to be in, it takes a certain temperament to be successful in it. Advancement opportunities are a little challenging at Epic -- the opportunities are there, however no concrete steps on how to advance. You need to express interest in particular roles to get on the appropriate career trajectory and then be proficient in your current capacity in order to receive the necessary positive feedback for advancement. Epic is a feedback driven company and that can be challenging and frustrating when management cannot provide specific steps for improvement -- i dont have a better way for the industry and position, however all feedback must be taken with a grain of salt and put into context.
