Pros

Overall, Epic is a good place to work. Employees are challenged and given opportunities to shape their career paths. Very competitive compensation for its industry and geographic location. Working at Epic leads to many good exit opportunities in healthcare IT or beyond. The work-life balance can usually be reasonable if you're willing to say no and maintain your boundaries. The culture of Epic is basically decent. I worked at Epic for the first few years of my career and it was a formative experience. There are some vocal young employees who whine about Epic because they have no idea how bad it can get at other companies - don't listen to them. I would recommend working at Epic.

Cons

Management sometimes makes foolish mistakes at higher levels of the company. Beyond the TLTL level, you encounter cults of personality around Judy, Carl, Sumit, Stirling, and some of the more established DMs. None dare question them. Of these chieftains, Judy is the only one who I would consider incompetent. So things are usually OK. But mistakes can go unchallenged for a long time.

Pros

Impact: You are part of creating systemic level change for healthcare organizations. You get to be on site and work directly with providers and see how these changes impact their communities. People: Extremely smart and capable. I feel like I can rely on my team in a way I haven't at previous employers. New hires are entry level, so there's a strong community for people in a similar stage of life. Culture: Quirky but in a real, unique way. People are collaborative and celebrate shared accomplishments. The campus enshrines a very specific (and fun!) vibe. Location: Madison is awesome. Benefits: The health insurance is unparalleled. Sabbatical is a super cool perk too. Growth: A lot of autonomy and responsibility allows people to rise to the challenge. Stability: Solid industry, no lay-offs.

Cons

Remote work flexibility: 5 days a year
