Pros

None, maybe you can make good friends

Cons

My experience working at Equinox was mixed. While the company has strong branding and attracts high-end clientele, the internal culture and work environment can be challenging depending on the location and management team. The environment can feel very clique-based, and favoritism often impacts how employees are treated. In some clubs, professionalism from management is inconsistent, especially with younger leadership teams. Employees who are high performers and well-liked by members can still feel targeted if there are personal issues with management. Documentation and communication processes also did not always feel transparent or fair. There also appeared to be very limited growth opportunities within certain departments. Many people stay in the same roles for years, and advancement can feel heavily influenced by favoritism and personal relationships rather than performance or merit. Compensation across multiple departments felt low compared to the amount of revenue employees generate for the company. Trainers and spa therapists only receive a small percentage of the income they bring in, making it difficult to earn a sustainable income without working extremely long hours. There is also a culture that tends to normalize overworking, making employees feel as though valuing work-life balance means they are “not working hard enough.” For membership sales advisors, the workload can become excessive, especially during closeout periods where employees may work 12-hour shifts for multiple consecutive days. There is strong pressure to hit goals, and at times it felt like working beyond scheduled hours was an unspoken expectation. Another issue I noticed was that the company often felt more focused on revenue and metrics than genuinely caring about either employees or members. While Equinox markets itself as a luxury wellness brand, the environment can feel transactional at times, with sales goals and retention numbers taking priority over people. Communication from management could sometimes be disrespectful, and in my experience, HR was not always helpful in resolving concerns. I would strongly encourage employees to keep records of important conversations and interactions for their own protection. Overall, Equinox may be a good fit for individuals who thrive in highly competitive, high-pressure environments, but it was not an environment that supported healthy work-life balance, professionalism, employee growth, or long-term well-being in my experience.

Cons

Sales quotas can be aggressive, and there is constant pressure to hit monthly targets regardless of market conditions. Success often depends heavily on club traffic, lead quality, and location, which can make performance feel inconsistent. Long hours and weekend availability are frequently expected, especially during promotional periods and month-end pushes. Compensation can fluctuate significantly if sales goals are missed. Management styles vary greatly by club; some locations offer strong support while others can be highly numbers-driven. Administrative tasks and CRM follow-up can become repetitive and take time away from building member relationships. High turnover among advisors can create additional workload for remaining team members. Advancement opportunities exist but can be competitive and sometimes unclear. The focus on sales metrics can occasionally overshadow the hospitality and member experience aspects of the role. Corporate initiatives and promotions can change frequently, requiring advisors to quickly adapt messaging and sales strategies
