Exrx.net is a great place to get work experience as a software engineer. Interns get the opportunity to work along side with other interns and professionals. The goal of the internship is for interns to learn new skills.
Cons
Sometimes interns have to be a little more proactive in asking for help. Some of the staff work from overseas, so the response time can take a day or more.
