A company with a lot of promise and potential, but with a lot of critical failures - Senior Software Engineer Exploding Kittens Employee Review

Pros

Very solid digital team with an amazing work ethic and culture (I've never seen a combination this good in my 8+ years as a software engineer)

Cons

Culture from upper management was not healthy, job security never felt real since funding was never approved for the entire year (despite hiring a small team), the company seems to be scrambling for stability and funding, there's some serious issues with a merger or some type of acquisition, upper management wasn't committed to the project that the digital team was hired to create, layoffs over the holidays despite promises of larger projects for the new year, and what I consider to be a stolen bonus and stock options because I was laid off about a week before they took effect (the stock options were in the offer letter I signed, but the cliff takes effect after the first year of employment).

Pros

competitive compensation, friendly coworkers, many days spent having fun and playing games

Cons

The culture here is deeply toxic, and it starts at the top. The C-suite’s self-serving behavior and lack of integrity have created an environment where unethical practices are the norm. Managers play favorites, manipulate their teams, and prioritize their own agendas over fairness or accountability. Leadership seems more interested in replacing people with AI than fostering genuine collaboration or valuing their employees. They go on podcasts to brag about it. It’s a red flag for anyone considering working with or for this organization. Proceed with caution—or better yet, steer clear.
