Pros

Extremely process-oriented company with best-in-class systems. The firm executes highly complex, historic projects throughout the Chicago area and surrounding markets. Upper management at headquarters is deeply knowledgeable and understands construction at a very high level. The company’s software stack, templates, standards, and internal processes are exceptionally well-developed and truly set teams up for success when properly supported.

Cons

The company is heavily centralized around its Chicago headquarters, and that strength does not translate consistently to regional offices. Using a Chicago Bulls analogy: the Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen talent stays at headquarters, while regional offices are often staffed with far less experienced leadership. As a result, leadership quality drops significantly outside Chicago, culture suffers, and execution becomes inconsistent. Certain regional offices—particularly the DC market—lack strong leadership and accountability despite being excellent markets with significant opportunity.

Pros

This has been a great learning experience for me. I’ve had the opportunity to work with many knowledgeable and experienced individuals, especially in the Mid-Atlantic office. The teams I’ve been a part of have collaborated effectively and created a positive learning work environment. As my first professional experience, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work at FHP, especially with the college graduate program they have.

Cons

There were times when I lacked clear direction and guidance when I first started, which required me to take initiative and figure things out on my own. This was both a blessing and a challenge. While it could be difficult and stressful, it ultimately helped me grow and learn through the process of problem solving.
