Pros

The people, especially my co-workers. Driven, smart, funny, and willing to share to make me and everyone else better. Part of the work, when working with clients, is great. You get to help companies make good decision about risk transfer. A lot of flexibility with style and approach.

Cons

As a company, especially the smaller business units, they are losing focus. Over the past few years there has been a lot of focus on creating internal system to keep everyone up to date on the status of every account. Lots of busy work, that only helps audit personal and very senior management plug in an account with little effort, but ads a lot of busy work taking away from time for client interaction. This is leading to a sense of micromanagement, and at it worst a sense of distrust. There are also issues with the roll out of new policies, not enough interaction between underwriting management and engineering management. A number of policies and practices that are required by one branch, but not supported by another.

Pros

* Great business model at the foundation * Solid compensation program: Base salary + bonus * Sustained high profitability over the long term * Stable employement * Pension Plan

Cons

* Extremely hierarchical and regimented * Promotions based on favortism rather than true merit. Employees are precategorized and stigmatized on their ability for future career progression. * Extremely focused on metrics and internal objectives. This leads to box checking, cutting corners and bending rules to meet the numbers. * Extremely heavy workload. No work-life balance. * Management doesn't really incorporate employee feedback; they pretend to to check a box. * Quality of job suffers to keep up with quantity. Everything is becoming data driven and the data is often wrong. Enormous pressure to hit a button and accept at face value whatever the system spews out. * Our CEO builds fancy gold plated office buildings that aren't needed and pulled the plug on hybrid work to justify the investment in the real estate.
