Pros
911 experience, decent benefits, company is growing fast and some managers are very helpful and nice. $30 a paycheck for kaiser insurance and $8 a paycheck for dental is pretty good. You can get on a 911 shift right away if you are willing to work 11hr overnight shifts. Training is pretty thorough.
Cons
Terrible pay for what we do. We make .50 cents over minimum wage. Old equipment in LA County, rigs with well over 200,000 miles on them and some even have roach problems. You heard me right, cockroaches in an ambulance. You are basically a taxi driver for LACoFD and for people who don't know the difference between a cough and respiratory distress. But if you are familiar with LA County EMS, you are already aware of this. Not much room for advancement, FTO is about as far as you will go. Operations and Division managers always find something wrong with you, you will be watched every second you are working.
