Pros

Pay is reasonable and can be a good place to start and gain experience if interested in the utility industry.

Cons

Designers are the default personnel to perform virtually every possible job function imaginable from addressing legal concerns, mapping and drafting, accounting audits, right-of-way acquisition, billing and invoicing, construction project management, customer service, file organizing, scheduling appointments, etc. all on top of your actual job which is already a lot. They have immense responsibilities and virtually no authority to correct any issues. Most only stay for a few years. Computer software is all antiquated and more often than not designers do not have the tools and training they need to do their jobs. Unbelievable level of stress.

Pros

FirstEnergy is a big company with a lot of growth that I've seen firsthand. Employees are helpful and all have the shared goals of keeping reliability of the electric grid. The pay is decent and stays competitive with the market rates as they do reviews consistently and evaluate. Its a great company that is trying to do better after misguided leads hip in the past

Cons

Some executive leadership vision is not shared with lower level employees. The recent transition from WFH back to the office has left employees such as myself wondering why its not role based WFH.
