Pros

Good for someone's first part-time job until you can find a much better place to work out.

Cons

Where do I start? Everything about Five Below is terrible. I've worked there for a good amount of time, upon getting hired it was an alright place to work but it was fun since we played with the merchandise a bit, particularly around Halloween. It all went downhill when management kept getting swapped around and the company went public. Some of the management through my course of working here were total losers that abused drugs, party all night, get drunk and come into work with hangovers and smell like weed. One of them even rolled one up while at the desk one night, along with them stealing merchandise until they got caught. I've only stayed with the company since I got a higher paying wage due to the first manager that seemed to have a lot of promise until they transferred. I helped open up a store and it took a year to get my reimbursement but I'm sure they were hoping I would forget about it or quit so they wouldn't have to give me the chump change. I rarely ever work over 12 hours a week and I barely break over for the gas I spend to drive over there. Of course, when the store first opened up, I worked over 24 hours easily and was called in to earn more hours until management changed. I have another job but it's the only one I care about while Five Below is just... there. I've been written up but nothing is done except empty threats. The only people that love shopping at Five Below are people who love buying junk that sometimes actually smells bad. I couldn't care less about Five Below to be honest.

Pros

-20% discount -med, dental, vision benefits -20-ish minimum hours per week -genuinely can be a fun store to work in when run well

Cons

-store managers have little to no oversight and cross professional boundaries often - hr is ineffective, document everything yourself, report to the EEOC -growth opportunities in the store are very limited and they will lowball you no matter what you do or sacrifice -crazy turnover because the expectations are unrealistic store managers lie about pay budget to everyone -more likely to hire teens and students because they are easier to take advantage of for little pay, only needs adult for when teens and students cannot work (night shifts, school days) - nearby stores, especially if in a strip mall or shopping center, like tj maxx have higher base pay, better benefits, better security, and more hour availability
