Pros

- All employees were very kind, you build your own team and can make the best of it - The work itself outside of holiday season is easy, steady, and not too overwhelming - You can have a lot of fun merchandising and making fun shopping experiences for kids :) - Pay is decent for AMs and SMs - Benefits are great! Health, dental etc.

Cons

- Very little training - High expectations for a dollar store, especially with the low hours given in payroll - LOTS of unpaid overtime for salaried manager. Paid for 45 hrs a week but worked closer to 80hrs at times - Little to no work/life balance - Rude district managers, regional managers, and corporate as a whole - Every night you have to remerch the ENTIRE store because every shelf ends up destroyed - District managers are very pushy on store sets, expecting them to be done within a two days - If stores within your district or nearby districts are understaffed, they will pull you from your store and expect that you cover others - Tons of call outs from associates in your store and in others, low pay for associates as well so lots of turnover - Bad communication with DMs and RMs - New merchandising process is terrible and a waste of time, but is expected I feel like I could go on forever about the cons LOL

Pros

-20% discount -med, dental, vision benefits -20-ish minimum hours per week -genuinely can be a fun store to work in when run well

Cons

-store managers have little to no oversight and cross professional boundaries often - hr is ineffective, document everything yourself, report to the EEOC -growth opportunities in the store are very limited and they will lowball you no matter what you do or sacrifice -crazy turnover because the expectations are unrealistic store managers lie about pay budget to everyone -more likely to hire teens and students because they are easier to take advantage of for little pay, only needs adult for when teens and students cannot work (night shifts, school days) - nearby stores, especially if in a strip mall or shopping center, like tj maxx have higher base pay, better benefits, better security, and more hour availability
