Five Star, or the facility I work for, does not provide employees with a sense of how valuable their services are to the resident’s quality of life. There is not enough focus on the importance of my job to the residents; it is instead focused on following proper procedures and just finishing a task. I believe the residents suffer when they and their health and happiness are not at the center of all the staff does. Making a facility feel like a home while following procedures and completing tasks should be our focus. It produces better employees because we are working for the community rather than the company: the job becomes personal and important and the company’s success will naturally follow.
