Pros

Looking back I can appreciate the fact that the owner knows the corporate world very well. I learned how to manage events from start to finish. Meaning Lead prospecting all the way to closing out the event. Which leads me to the con.

Cons

The salary was incredibly low and she micromanaged to the point where everyone was constantly nervous about making decisions without consulting with her. I didn't feel empowered and didn't feel like she trusted me to do my job. The way she spoke to vendors made me uncomfortable - incredibly rude. Passive- aggressive and incredibly condescending. She would be annoyed if we left at 5pm although the business hours are until 5pm and although you work crazy hours since you have to manage larger events. She didn't have a CRM therefore the lead/prospecting process was incredibly dated- Everything was handwritten. Any updates had to be handwritten in the folder! Lots of Cold calling. The proposals were also put together on word with google pictures and your own descriptions since there wasn't a template. To be honest I felt like I was scheming people because everything was "packaged" to hide fees. Event staff were untrained independent workers. (Some had done more events than others and knew the drill but others needed training). You would only get commission on the revenue after all expenses! AND you would only get paid about 60 days after the event was closed. ALSO - you were required to make her your salary back and then some, before you could start making commissions!!! Work/Life balance only existed for the owner. When on vacation you will have to answer your phone and forget about sick time. When I left this job I was a different person - depressed and insecure. I saw people constantly leave because of the way she managed her team and business.

Pros

growth mentality, push to be your best, unlimited income potential, ability to be creative, every day is different

Cons

Not a con, however, not all can take pressure of always being pushed to be productive and at your best, and peak season can be quite intense.

Pros

The FDI staff is great to work with, and there are opportunities to work alongside a variety of vendors and hotel staff. The diverse events and programs organized by the team ensure clients have a positive and memorable experience. FDI provides great service while employees learn valuable customer service skills in the hospitality industry. The owner, Gina Thiemann, is passionate and an endless source of knowledge. She has been in the industry for decades, has countless connections and helps connect you within the industry. She cares about her employees while focusing on the evolution and improvement of the company.

Cons

Peak season - November to January – demands a lot of employee time and energy. It is challenging, but rewarding.
