Pros
I'm a computer scientist by training. I specialize in Machine Learning and in my previous life (Ph.D) I tried to develop distributed ML algorithms to predict Earthquakes and Volcanoes. After graduating, I wanted to work on problems with a more significant impact than selling gadgets or getting someone to click on advertisements. I wanted to be involved in something with a deeper impact on society. Foghorn's vision is to develop platform that enables Machines to be intelligent. In future, each machine will have its own "brain" that will enable it to work autonomously. “Foghorn’s vision is to make machines intelligent, and build an eco-system that enables humans to build smarter machines."
My team at Foghorn primarily solves industrial scale problems via data science and analytics. My team tackles difficult real world problems in an applied research and development environment. We solve data science problems in different industries like aviation, oil and gas, power, renewables, transportation, and healthcare. I enjoy my work where someday I will be talking to subject matter expert in deep-hole drilling and another day I might be designing experiments to analyze audio/video data on our platform. The work gives me freedom to be creative, autonomous and self-starting. Exciting technology and a great workplace to be in.
Cons
Edge computing is new technology and may take few years to be very popular. It takes a while for me to explain my friends what I am doing. We are solving real industrial problem which may not be fascinating for few people.
