Pros

Working hours. Other staff are excellent.

Cons

Company culture of passive-aggressive communication, this is especially rife within upper management. Unhealthy communication style - some managers will scream at you and others will ignore you, as well as managers using their position and gossiping about employees personal business, this behaviour runs from the CEO right down to the head of client service, there is a general culture of emotional abuse and a clear and definite undertone of racism throughout the management team. Micromanagement and no transparent communication - always unclear when and if you would receive bonuses, increases etc. and when addressed with managers they often don't respond, blow off the meeting or simply evade having the conversation leaving the employee at a loss. No growth or succession plans for employees and therefore no way of measuring performance which seems to be done intentionally in order to keep paying people poorly. FoxP2 pays terribly, if you are young and/or don't have the ability to demand decent pay, it will severely stunt your financial growth in your career. The agency has a discrepancy in pay between genders (as most do) but on top of that woman are treated as second class citizens and very often berated and screamed at in front of an audience, this seldom happens to men, although it should not happen to anyone, this is supposedly a business and not a preschool. You also get no benefits. No RA and no medical aid contribution. When people resign they are ignored and isolated, sometimes even taking away their office as a way of punishment for leaving and then the only time they are addressed is during agency addresses where they are bad mouthed and bashed in an underhand manner. The agency is run by the mood swings of certain managers. They are so foul that no person will approach these managers before checking in with someone who knows the temperature of their mood. This often gets in the way of running the day to day tasks or dealing with other issues that require attention. This manager has no regard for anyone's time, comes and goes as they please but then will keep you at the office for an extra 2 hours because of their inability to manage his time. They belittle work that doesn't sound or look like their overplayed ideas. Original thinking is not encouraged. Awards are not at all important. Not a great place to grow as a creative. This is the most extreme micromanagement I have ever encountered. Constantly exposed to passive-aggressive comments to employees. The management style would probably be one of the main causes for the high staff turn over in the agency. No trained HR, a manager acts as HR contact for the Dentsu group, which means there is very little in place to protect the employee and it is at this managers discretion as to whether or not something is escalated. In the limited time in the role, this manager has exhibited no discretion and has been overheard on many occasions discussing personal complaints and HR related matters openly with other staff.

Pros

In the JHB agency the working hours are great, and they pay better than most agencies do. You get a good work/life balance and don’t often work overtime or weekends.

Cons

You get no benefits like a pension fund etc. Not much of a company culture - It’s quite corporate there. FoxP2 JHB don’t believe in doing award winning work. Due to it being a little small, there is a lot of micromanaging that takes place. The management style there is very passive-aggressive and internal communication is poor. You often have to deal with bad tempers and fowl moods. Not an ideal place for creatives looking to grow. Overall, people are not happy there and their staff turn around is quite big.
