Pros

I've been all over the state at Fred Meyer in my 14+ years. I've worked for this company since I was a part-time employee at the tender age of 17. The people here have always been very friendly and caring and we truly create a family within our stores. Our management and regional team continues to strive to create a better business culture through communication; coaching, teaching and training our team; and classes to help strengthen our knowledge of how the world of retail is changing.

Cons

Retail is not a job for the faint of heart. In my time at Fred Meyer I've been cussed out, spit on and generally been treated like I was stupid and incompetent by several customers because of my young age and being in some of the positions I've been in. But I will tell you when you have someone that truly needs your help and you go out of your way to help them (which is Fred Meyer way) the smiles that you get and the heart felt thanks make it all worth it.

Job can be fun and interesting Always something new to learn Lots of personal fulfillment as a manager when things go right

Unsupportive upper management Toxic work culture, unpaid overtime is rewarded and even expected or forced, even to the tune of multiple weeks in a row with no days off when you are salaried. They claim to support work life balance but even the smallest effort to set boundaries is heavily punished. Not paid as much as we should be for everything we have to do and deal with
