Pros

Excellent and collaborative relationship between faculty and administrators to partner together on initiatives. Amazing and innovative projects that have the 'student first.' Strong partnership with Frederick County Public School system - especially high schools. New president is a strong leader. College is working to improve under new president.

Cons

Limited budget and inconsistencies in expectations for divisions/teams. The influence and personality of the senior leader can be the difference to a 'yes' on a proposal, project, initiative, etc. A good proposal can get lost or missed if the senior leader does not understand it or cannot articulate it on behalf of that requestor. Current process and structure of decision making is not solidly in place... often creating a feeling of continuous change. Morale has fluctuated and because of past hurts, employees who have been at the college through tough times tend to be skeptical of leadership and feel unsupported. Employees struggle financially with the only consideration being a 1% COLA and no merit raises.

Pros

Most of the staff care a lot about the students and go above and beyond their normal responsibility level.

Cons

Raises are always given across the board, generally up to a 3% COLA. But the health insurance goes up at the same time so you don't see much, if any, of the COLA. Some lose pay, since the insurance premium is a flat amount for everyone instead of being a percentage of your salary. There are no other raises unless someone above you leaves and you apply to replace them. Performance evaluations mean nothing, so the people who do just enough to keep from being fired will get the same treatment as the high-performer with glowing reviews. The insurance also has a $300/year deductible that the employee must pay (they cover $3000 of the $3,300 deductible by giving it to you on an HSA card. But this year it didn't fully cover it like previous years. Maybe also google "FCC president Burmaster" and watch the YouTube where the faculty issued a vote of no-confidence and publicly called for her resignation. The board punished her by extending her contract an extra year. That'll teach her! ...
