Pros

1 to 1 classrooms, opportunity to impact struggling kids directly, great supportive team, full freedom for creative instruction

Cons

You're hired as a contract worker, essentially, and are only paid per class hour. So, if a student calls out sick, you do not get paid for that class. You could work like 13 hrs a/day and only get paid for 7. You accrue paid time towards grading and prep that doesn't come anywhere near the time you actually spend. All curricula is designed by you for each student individually. You have to communicate with each parent daily. Advancement is very difficult as there are few options if roles are taken. High turnover is inevitable. School charges 60K+/year to students, teachers should be full time employees with good pay. Less turnover, greater quality of instruction. Students are often dealing with things that only a licensed therapist, psychiatrist, social worker, or other professional should deal with yet much of it falls on the untrained teacher. This is not fair to anyone involved.

Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and honest review. First, I want to acknowledge the deep care and dedication reflected in your words. Your passion for supporting struggling students, collaborating with a strong team, and using creative instruction speaks volumes about the heart you brought to your work at Fusion. We also hear your concerns—loud and clear. The realities of hourly pay, the emotional labor teachers often carry, and the challenges related to advancement and workload are valid, and they are not taken lightly. You’ve painted a clear picture of both the rewarding and the difficult aspects of the role, and feedback like this is essential as we strive to do better. Your closing note—recognizing the commitment of our school staff and leadership—is deeply appreciated. Please know we are continuing to advocate for structural improvements and teacher support internally, and insights like yours help keep those conversations grounded in real experiences. If you're open to sharing more or reconnecting, I’d welcome the opportunity to hear from you directly. You can reach me at kstorey@fusionacademy.com. Thank you again for all you gave during your time with us, and we wish you nothing but success ahead.

Pros

Work culture, amazing parents and students, opportunities for growth, location. Close to I95 and the Tri-rail station

Cons

The pay could be better considering the cost of living, tuition cost, and location. I also would love to see more funds invested into the Homework Cafe.

Thank you for sharing your experience and for the commitment you've shown over the past several years. It’s wonderful to hear that the culture, relationships with students and families, and opportunities for growth have made your time at Fusion meaningful. Team members like you help create the supportive, student-centered environment that is so important to our mission. I also appreciate your thoughtful feedback regarding compensation and resources for the Homework Cafe. We understand that cost-of-living considerations and the resources available to support students are important factors in the employee and student experience. Your perspective helps us better understand where investments can have the greatest impact, both for our educators and the students who rely on these programs. Thank you again for your honesty and for all that you do to support our students each day. We’re grateful for your contributions and for the care you bring to the Fusion community.

Pros

Fun culture, lots of lunches and/or snacks provided. Staff works with you to help you get more hours, for example, since your bills won't stop during the summer...

Cons

There are a lot, honestly. In a nutshell, you are expected to work as a full-time teacher, except you are paid as part-time or three-quarter-time. Not given enough planning time, which means that if you want to present a decent lesson and cohesive curriculum to your students, you will work for free: darned if you do, and darned if you don't. It seems like a good concept on paper, but apparently, it's hard to make their model work. Quality teachers want reliable income, but since Fusion (for whatever reason) can't pay decently, the good ones run as soon as they get something better.
