Great People, but a small company trying to act big - Engineer Manager GAI Consultants Employee Review

Pros

The people in the company are excellent and the company is not very large so there is a great chance to meet and interact with upper management. Due to both of these factors rarely have I heard of someone that is doing project work being let go.

Cons

Upper management has become VERY focused on the bottom line and profit. Training is done mostly out of the Pittsburgh and Orlando locations so if you are in another office you will not have the same opportunities. Some management are allowed to kind of make their own rules despite what the HR handbook may say and HR uses the "per manager approval" phase to skate actual taking a stand for employees. Company only observes 7 paid holidays (no Christmas Eve or MLK). No real evaluation or bonus system. Both are very much up to the manager and are not tied together at all (new HR department, so maybe this changes). Some managers use company money to travel all over the US with no real insight (directly from the bottomline). Additionally, it seems some admin staff spends crazy amounts of money (again directly from the bottomline) on furniture and appearance without considering the possible return.
