Pros

most students are dedicated to learning English

Cons

• Semi-functional computers when they are even available, but can hardly play audio tapes for the students' lessons. Not enough power cords and sometimes the laptops run out of battery power when lessons are in session. CDs and textbooks are in a mess and very difficult to find any teaching materials. The mention of poor quality computers numerous times is to no avail. • Management knows the schedule of classes because they set the schedule, yet they don’t provide equipment (whiteboard, whiteboard markers, erasers, computers), and then it is chaos when trying to locate a computer or A/V equipment for the lesson. • Whiteboards fall off the walls and no one bothers to re-hang them. Instead they are left on the floor for people to trip over. • Low pay and high tax withholding. GEOS closed for 3 months and during COVID-19 and no one contacted the employees. There was no information provided on what was going on, or if staff would be retained and asked to return to teach. E-mails to the employer went unanswered. The school has re-opened since mid-June, but teachers have not been contacted and have lost their income.

Pros

They are flexible with time off and will offer you future opportunities to teach if they liked your teaching and your current contract was short. They are supportive if you have an issue or a problem or need to consultation about a situation in class.

Cons

Sometimes their plans change when you arrive at work and you must prepare a totally new lesson in a few minutes (despite your having something planned already). The hire very few teachers full-time (about two) and employ the majority (10ish) part-time only.
