Great place to learn to be a well-rounded consultant, terrible place to stay if you want to be promoted. - Associate Environmental Consultant GaiaTech Employee Review

Pros

The training programs GaiaTech provides are unlike any I've seen at other consulting firms. GaiaTech has a group devoted specifically to training their employees. The training was frequent and helpful and something all consulting firms should provide. If you're out of college and want to learn the ropes, this is a great firm to start with.

Cons

Obscure and fraternal management and promotional style. If you're unfortunate enough to work in an office that's not the headquarters in Chicago or the sidekick office in Atlanta, don't expect much recognition of your work, no matter how good it is. Cracking the management fraternity feels like a lame high school popularity contest and it becomes horrifying when you realize that these are the same people that decide your salary, schedule your workload, and determine when you should be promoted. Don't expect the old guard to change.

Pros

My first couple months have been so satisfying. Beautiful offices, caring employees and my boss might just break into the top five of my lifetime. It's a very quiet office until Friday afternoon and then all bets are off. Last Friday was the annual boating excursion and it was easy to spend time with people I don't know very well because they are amazingly friendly.

Cons

What's not to like? Amazing people, historic LaSalle St building, riding Metra makes more sense than the Red Line, diverse and odd food trucks for lunch, farmer's market twice a week and Kristkindlmarkt in the winter. This job is wonderful. OK, I'll dig deep....they don't let me use color ink in my printer.

Pros

Has great people and some beneficial training programs. The company also is located in major city zones which is attractive for young talent and experience professionals alike.

Cons

GaiaTech goes not have a "toxic" group of people as a previous reviewer indicated. It's hard to accept the notion that all the people leaving during my time were the "C" performers. Some of my better colleagues left for some of the other reasons described below. The real issue is that the company has not recognized it's young talent and does not put the same level of stock in employees regardless of level or experience. There is a widening gap between senior consultants and junior staff. Upper management knows in order to maintain current progress senior level folk are essential and it has created a revolving door as younger staffare replaceable. This practice however, is not sustainable. The idea that GaiaTech retains "C" level employees is a disgrace to the company. There are those that seem to dip their heads into the sand and fail to recognize the poor strategies and management practices in place.
