Pros

Beautiful view of Boston Harbor OK pay The employees who aren't cutthroat are lovely but you have to seek them out Summer perks (casual May-Sept; leave at 2 on Fridays) are great

Cons

The turnover is unreal - over 40 people left in the time I was there, and people are still leaving as of this review. Almost everyone I know has moved on to another company. I wasn't convinced that corporate and HR were trying to fix the problem because they completely failed to address the real problem-this office is TOXIC. If you don't fit in or if your boss doesn't consider you their favorite you will be forced out. Everyone is cutthroat and gossipy. Nobody is committed to your success; only your downfall and how they can benefit from it. High turnover is not a sustainable model. Plus the insurance community in Boston is small. Everyone knows how bad it is to work at Gallagher. Word travels quickly. There is only one health insurance plan (BCBS of IL) and they force you to pay for birth control. This is Massachusetts - you're not supposed to be paying for that. Pretty sure it's because it's owned by a Catholic family. The workflows are absolutely ridiculous. You're expected to rotate through every daily task multiple times a day, and if you don't you'll be told that you're not working hard enough. This is basically inviting an E&O. People aren't robots. Training is redundant and is only designed to avoid an E&O - not improve efficiency. I wasn't convinced. I've been in insurance for many years and this job is the reason I won't go back to another position in the industry. I have a lot of issues trusting management after my experience with this company. Not worth the drama and mental health issues. I wouldn't recommend any of my insurance friends to this particular office. I think Gallagher is an okay company but this office in particular is awful and needs a complete staffing reset.

Thank you for your comments. Leadership in Boston is working with regional support on listening to employee concerns and problem-solving. Gallagher has one insurance provider, but multiple plans that our employees can choose from in order to make the best decisions for their needs. Gallagher’s plans do include a list of contraceptives that are covered at no cost to employees covered under the plans. Contraceptives not included on the list may still be covered under the plans, but at a cost to the employee. Employees are encouraged to report any behaviors that go against our policies to the Ethics and Compliance Hotline, which provides the opportunity to remain anonymous, at (888) 878-6236. Gallagher promotes a working environment free of harassing, abusive, disrespectful, disorderly, disruptive or other non-professional conduct that interferes with another’s work performance or that creates an intimidating, offensive, or hostile environment.

Pros

Great work-life balance as a remote employee. Management is approachable and genuinely willing to help when it comes to workload — you never feel like you're on your own.

Cons

Mentorship is largely self-driven. if you don't seek it out yourself, it won't come to you. Systems and internal processes can be slow and tedious, which adds friction to an already fast-paced workload. Compensation does not reflect the complexity or volume of work expected. High performers who are ready for the next step would benefit from clearer, more proactive promotion paths. When that structure is missing, talented people disengage quietly long before they ever leave.
