Pros
Some of my coworkers are great. I like helping my wonderful clients (top companies in Ontario) with their HR strategies. PTO is quite generous compared to other companies.
Cons
I was originally hired by one of the companies that Gallagher acquired. I really loved that company, my boss and my team there. When Gallagher came in, they did not make changes right away, but after about a year of the acquisition, most of our former executives started to leave. Then, more people below them also left and Gallagher did nothing to retain them. Some departments stayed without a leader for 8-10 months and nobody gave proper direction or opportunities for advancement to employees who stayed. - Management: the senior management from Gallagher are the most fake people I've ever seen. They will smile at you and speak positive words; however their true intentions are always self serving. They do not care about people: if you are struggling, stressed, or demotivated, go figure things out by yourself. You're just a small piece to get their numbers, nothing else. If you say something slightly negative or complain to HR, they will find a way to get rid of you or isolate you so that you leave on your own. - Processes and equipment: The laptops and office equipment are decent but the required software slows everything down. There is a form for everything and processes are very bureaucratic and frustrating. Being in a sales role where clients want things quickly is quite stressful. - Surveillance: Gallagher has a policy of monitoring every movement you make with your laptop and phone. Even if you have a personal phone, sometimes you'll need to use it for business and they'll install some software to monitor what you do there. I know employees who were smacked for downloading proprietary documents and using their personal email while at work. The IT and Legal teams are simply paranoid. - Coworkers: most are fine and responsive. Just don't mess with anyone who is a senior manager or above. Watch your back because there's lots of backstabbing and blaming. - Compensation: well below market. In a city like Toronto, salaries are way less than what you typically earn in a similar job elsewhere. Shameful for a company providing consulting services in Comp & Benefits. The benefits package is just average. - Overall culture: morale is really low right now, especially at companies that were merged to the "Gallagher family" in recent years. While Gallagher wins the "Most Ethical Company" award every year, the culture does not reflect ethics, transparency, or psychological safety. They do motivational events here and there, virtually and in person, but it's all very cliquey and insincere. I would never recommend anyone to come work here. If you're interviewing with Gallagher, please think twice before joining. It's not the shiny place that you are presented on their website and social media. If your company has been acquired by Gallagher, start making your resume and applying to jobs.
