Gate One Response
1wThank you for your very balanced review – it’s much appreciated. We agree with you that we have talented, driven and genuinely nice people here, Good also to hear about the high-impact projects and the flexible and trusting culture you’ve experienced.
On leadership, we know that consistency in terms of capability and behaviours is critical to trust. We’re continuing to focus on clearer expectations and accountability at senior levels, as well as increasing visibility and connection between leadership and our teams. If anyone experiences leadership behaviours that fall below our high expectations we hope people feel they can talk to a trusted SLT member to escalate any issues or to use the anonymous 360 feedback tool (which is being used more frequently which is good and the feedback is being shared with the relevant leader).
Your point around project rotation is well made. Creating more opportunity for variety and development through different client projects is really important and will be included within the new “change the business” initiative – EVP evolution. One proposal is an automatic ‘formal rotation review’ after 12 months on any project – please do feed in your opinion via your Employee Engagement rep (or P&T team member).
You highlight the weighting of business development versus other contributions when looking at progression and recognition. BD has always been important across grades at Gate One, in order to develop that BD 'muscle' which gets really important at senior grades in any consulting company. Especially during challenging market conditions, which we’ve been experiencing over the last few years, there needs to be a strong focus on winning new work and growing existing accounts to remain a sustainable business. However, BD is valued alongside other critical aspects of the role including delivery excellence, people development and contribution to our culture - the balance of these aspects is something which will be reviewed within the EVP evolution initiative.
More broadly, your comment about protecting what has made Gate One special as we move through this next phase really resonates. As a firm, we are being deliberate about how we evolve - holding onto the really important cultural aspects including autonomy, pragmatism and collective spirit while making the changes needed to support our 3-year strategy and long-term success. It’s encouraging to hear that you’ve seen positive progress recently - we’re committed to continuing that momentum.
