Middle of the road in every respect - Director, Contracts General Dynamics Information Technology Employee Review

Pros

The company is large, and therefore stable. They rarely ever lay anyone off, in part because attrition is quite high, so they're always looking to fill open roles. Benefits are mediocre. Family leave is embarassingly bad (1 week off for a birthing mother, just got updated to 2 weeks I believe).

Cons

The corporate ethos is "Honesty, Transparency, Alignment, Trust", but there is very little transparency or honesty from senior leadership. High level jobs are handed out like cotton candy at a fair, with zero opportunity for competition from anyone outside of the "in crowd". Also, you can expect your career in every function of the business to have a definitive ceiling if you don't already receive a pension for your prior military service. The corollary is also true - if you have no industry experience, but just retired from the military, they will give you opportunities that you 100% are not qualified to do, without competition from people who 100% are qualified. Also, they pay well below industry and location averages.

Pros

Good pay and flexible telecommute options

Cons

Extremely basic benefit offerings. There also seems to be a very wide chasm between GDIT internal (management/corporate) and front-line staff who are focused on the contract.
