Pros

Middle management and peers are one of the few reasons I continue to stay at GDC4S. A select few programs are interesting, the remaining are mind-numbing but pay the bills.

Cons

Upper level management is incompetent, continuing to keep their 'heads in the clouds'. No real long-term vision of what the company's core competencies are, what they wish to become, or a realistic viewpoint of why the company is 'bleeding talent' as ambitious individuals are constantly quitting, leaving the complacent workforce. There is no investment of R&D, training, or pursuits of technologies, they look only for cash cows and scratch their heads when large programs terminate and they have to cut staff. With 140 people in the entire building, I'd expect higher level managers to be on a first-name basis with employees, rather they couldn't pick most employees our of a line-up. The rigid Internet policies, legal department and woefully inadequate computing resources makes already difficult work nearly unbearable. Open reqs spanning months speaks for itself.

Pros

GD-MS seems to win *ALOT* of proposals and contracts. There is always the next big thing at GD-MS.

Cons

Contractors 411: Typically, contracts terminated with no notice. Today will be your last day. Please wrap up your work. It was a very low-rate contract too. Made alot of sacrifices to be on this program. Culture resembled a human wood-chipper ala FARGO. Many senior engineers leaving en-mass. I was asked to take over the role of the engineer who left just prior to my arrival. I called it: I will be next. Good experience once in your life to go thru the human wood-chipper. Toughens you up. However, GD-MS is a great example of how it is that legacy aerospace companies are dying rapidly and startups will be the future in aerospace.
