Pros

1) Excellent co-workers: I was new to industry, and to engineering work in general, and everyone, especially my manager, was supportive and kind. We did lunch a lot (FREE) and talked and joked like happy employees should. 2) Nice blend of office and on-site work: I worked half of the time at the office and half of the time on the construction site 30 minutes away from the office. (Naturally, my project was under-construction and some of the project engineers were in a 2 year design phase and did not get out of the office as much) 3) Interesting combination of a large company operating at a seemingly small business level: the engineering division especially was individually based, with many of the engineers working on separate projects with little interface. 4) Ability to talk to senior management, I'm talking COO and CEO level. This was really cool. You can get the bigger picture.

Cons

1) Management and business development seemed to be moving faster than engineering could keep up, yet this is typical. 2) Because it is based in Houston, people were definitely job hopping, so to speak. Within the 3 months I was there, 2 high level co-workers left to work with different midstream oil companies in the area.

Pros

Flexibility is the only thing that keeps people employed here, because there’s definitely no room for growth, no structure, and lacks any type of organization.

Cons

Upper management gets away with retaliation against employees, embezzlement, and gross mismanagement. They have no clue how to manage a boat company. It’s a constant CIRCUS and somebody is going to end up getting killed in the fleet if this company continues to be “managed” like it is. Go elsewhere. WAKE UP, HR and protect Genesis Energy from the executives at Genesis Marine. It’s a sinking ship.
