Pros
The stated mission is great. The benefits are wonderful, but the salary is not as high as other opportunities in the area. This is offset by the fact that you get to do work for the community and really have an impact.
Cons
Depending on where you work, the department may have terrible culture, especially for women. There are other people who are working hard to improve these pockets - but if you don't find those people, you could feel very isolated. Hopefully you will find one of the great departments!
