Pros

It's a somewhat relaxed environment. You get close to two weeks off at the end of the year. If you can massage your work schedule, BIG IF... You can take classes for free. (6 credits a semester)

Cons

If you have any ambition,they have enough happening there to make you believe you can make a difference. Just be prepared to have your work marginalized come review time. If you move up from a low skill position to a substantially higher position internally, they basically have figured out how to justify underpaying you to the point of insult. They'll see you as qualified for the job, but NOT qualified to get the base salary. On the other hand, if you come in from the outside, you can easily out earn your coworkers by as much as 25k. But again, don't expect to ever get a raise. GMU's IT department seems to have this defeated mentality, where they seem to indirectly promote minimum performance, since anything above that generally means that they have to fill out additional paperwork. Training, classes and certs are encouraged, but not rewarded.

Honestly, there are not many cons. I fully recommend this working at this university!
