Pros
Currently - None I am a career employee with State of Georgia. This used to be a good place to work with good salary, benefits, job training, and annual cost-of-living increases and performance based salary increases. None of these things are true now.
Cons
Don't decide to make a career here. I did and regret it every day. I am actively looking for other employment. After 34 years I have reached the top of the pay scale for my job title. The top of my pay scale with State of Georgia is equivalent to beginning salary at many other places. Because I am at the top of the scale, I am not eligible for any type of salary increase. Every few years the Governor grants a small increase to state employees - but not me and others in my situation. Also, benefit premiums increase each year so I have less net income every year. State of Georgia does not care about retention of good, loyal, stable employees. State employees get a bad rep because many employees are not interested in making a career here so they do not try to do their best. They are just hanging out until a better job comes along. They just stay here to pay the bills until they can leave.
