Pros
I remember the good old days at GSP. We were a family, and our families all knew each other and hung out together. We fought and made up like families do. I welcome change when it is for the good of your people, not for the good of your budget.
Cons
It used to be more of a family until they removed the operators from the posts and created a centralized communications center in each troop. The troopers became just a voice and a number. The only interaction with the troopers is at the post where the communications center is. As long as you are a "yes sir" type person, then you are good to go. Heaven forbid you have an opinion different from theirs. In 20 years I saw them run some bad people off, but also some very good people that did not deserve to be bullied and forced out like they were.
The troopers work very hard. But no matter how well they do, it is never quite good enough. You did well on the number of speeding citations this month trooper, but you didn't write enough seat belt citations. That is the sort of "encouragement" they get. Oh trooper you got 100 DUI's this month which is great, you saved countless lives, BUT you did not write enough child restraint citations. It is all about the numbers!
