Pros
I have been with gerdau for 5 years and started at the bottom. In those 5 years I have experienced a 50 percent increase in pay through 2 promotions and decent merit raises. This was also through the big global downturn in steel markets when these actions were at a premium. I feel the big pro at this company is that they recognize achievement and a eagerness to find solutions. They evaluate that value even more when you own it and roll up your sleeves to get it done.
Cons
There are always a lot of initiatives rolling through the company but they always have a related theme which is improve safety or control costs. If you work toward those goals you are always making it, but they have consultants come up with 15 ways to report the numbers in different ways. The real areas that need more oversight are procurement and sales as policy compliance is rarely followed and simply overlooked and those variances derail everything else.
