Pros
The best thing I can say about working at Giant is the company culture—it’s generally positive and welcoming (a bit skeptical about this statement - explanation in cons section). The people here are kind, approachable, and seem to enjoy working with one another.
Cons
1. Pay vs. Responsibility: Compensation does not align with the expectations or workload. Employees are often asked to uphold responsibilities that don’t match their pay grade. 2.Lack of True Collaboration: Instead of collaboration, there's a tendency to deflect responsibility, especially within and around Merchandising. Blame Game culture. 3.Outdated Benefits: PTO is minimal—just 10 days from year 1 up to year 5. Health insurance options are lack luster compared to what’s offered by more modern companies. 4.Resistance to Change: Many employees have been with the company for decades, which created a culture that often hates change or is not ok with it. 5.Limited Career Growth: Promotions often follow a "wait your turn" model, which can mean waiting years without any real development path. You have at least five people above you and 10 years to check off before you get anywhere. 6.Firing Practices: Terminations are handled quietly and seem to follow a “didn’t drink the Kool-Aid” energy. 7.Accountability: Staff with long tenure often operate without being held accountable, creating inefficiencies and perpetuating outdated habits. 8.Attendance Policy: Unlike other Ahold Delhaize banners, Giant does not follow the 3-day in-office/2-day remote hybrid policy. Shows the lack of trust in their employees. 9.Inefficient Processes: Many of the internal systems are outdated and overly complex, requiring multiple handoffs that leads to rework. LEGIT APART OF YOUR EVERYDAY TASK, REWORK. 10.Location: The building itself is outdated. Cheap vibes for a big player in the grocery market.
