Pros

I really enjoyed being part of the Global Language Network. I believe in what they’re doing and think the mission is something special. You can tell the organization is genuinely here to do good, and they create a welcoming space for people to connect, learn, and grow. I’m glad I got to be involved.

Cons

I can't really think of any cons—I sincerely enjoyed my time here.

Pros

- immersed myself in the downtown DC worker lifestyle, commuting to Dupont Circle everyday - connecting with other great people who are all passionate about language and teaching - networking with other young professionals in the DC area through external events with GLN - great cohort of interns that I worked with - gained experience on social media design and engagement, mail merges, and managing a large database

Cons

- unfortunately, communication between the Intern team and the Founding CEO was quite subpar. we were often left in radio silence waiting for directions from the founder, only to then be assigned spontaneous tasks that were unrelated to the current projects we were working on, often causing confusion on our end. - Because of the seeming disorganization from the CEO, it often felt like we had higher stakes in our positions as we had to make more decisions without communicating with the CEO. - All of the intern roles were unpaid, and the only two paid employees of the nonprofit are the Program Coordinator and the CEO, who makes a significantly higher salary than the Program Coordinator. The CEO of the nonprofit himself does not live in the DC area, instead residing in Israel, further complicating our abilities to communicate with him or reach him via email or google chat. - It honestly felt like the Program Coordinator was doing 85% of the work to maintain the nonprofit while the CEO would join a call every few weeks to pitch some new, random ideas that further disrupted the progress of the organization.
