Pros
I've worked for other companies before: huge companies, family businesses, medium ones but I was positively fairly surprised when I joined GoCardless. They consider themselves a family-oriented company, and that, they are. We have meetings with the other parents in the company to discuss our parent role in a Work-from-Home environment and they are flexible when you have an emergency or a situation. The team is welcoming, friendly and I've never experienced any nastiness from competitive people so far, as we all work together and we really help each other. It was refreshing to have a lot of female colleagues, during my interview, that are working for a Fintech company in a technical role. This company was there in the best way possible when I had a personal issue. I expected to be pressured, to be left aside, as it was my past work experience but they showed up in the best ways possible. I was looking for a company where I expected honesty, rewards, recognition and respect...and I got exactly that plus a whole lot more.
Cons
The thing I found when I joined was that the training material could have been more cohesive, comprehensive and clear, as we rely a lot on information that you learn on the job, but if you forget some procedure you have to find it by asking someone who remembers, instead of having dedicated pages for all steps and procedures. There is a lot of room for growth in that area, but thankfully they asked for our feedback and they are implementing it now!
