Pros

Teaching can be rewarding and enjoyable

Cons

This school has a low effort/low performance culture for support staff and instructors. That mindset is obvious to students and members of the community. As an Adjunct Instructor I would occasionally get bumped from the classes I was scheduled to teach. This happened several times, sometimes just minutes before the first class session of the semester was scheduled to begin. This would happen after I had spent several hours preparing to teach the class including creating the syllabus, reading the textbook, creating assignments, loading students into the online system, etc. Getting bumped off teaching assignments meant I was not paid for the prep work I put in. Many instructors and most support employees did not make it a priority to support the mission of the school, which is to help students learn and prepare them for the future. I gave students an assignment at most class sessions (this is supposed to be college, after all) and numerous students would tell me how unusual it was for them to a take a class with frequent homework assignments. I question the caliber of education students receive when many instructors do not give homework and are frequently not available for posted office hours. I am skeptical of how prepared students are after completing two years here, whether that be at a four year university or their ability to be successful over the long term in employment in the area of their coursework.
