Pros

The IC field team are awesome, supportive and capable. Free food.

Cons

Firstly, I suspect there is some fudging of comments below because what is being said is not true or they respondents are new and still drinking the glossy cool aid. Google Cloud is not Google. No where close to it. For the most part senior management are appalling individuals that have no leadership skills and motivate through passive bullying. Google cloud lacks relevance in the Australian market with significant resistance and distrust from organisations to consider them enterprise ready. Makes sales painful. Google cloud may roll out a great narrative around value or multi cloud or sustainability… but after sales support and resourcing is severely lacking. Most sales and customer engineers have been there long enough to see that things are not just cracking, but crumbling. Most sales teams don’t make their number… or get close. With that comes massive pressure from management. Management is sketchy at best. Land grabs, internal fighting, constant churn, ridiculous expectations to name a few problems. Internal tools and processes are horrendous. Long winded, complex, red tape foe the sake of it, decisions and approvals based on the US make process painfully slow. Finally, with an OTE at risk of 60%, forget commission based pay outs as being remotely likely.

Pros

Working at a generic tech company can be a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, work with modern tools, and contribute to products that may reach a large number of users or businesses. The environment often provides exposure to talented coworkers, cross-functional collaboration, and interesting technical or product challenges. There may also be opportunities for career advancement, competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and equity upside if the company performs well.

Cons

At the same time, the experience can come with tradeoffs. Priorities may shift quickly, expectations can be high, and employees may need to operate with some ambiguity around ownership, timelines, or success metrics. Depending on the team, the work may also involve tight deadlines, operational responsibilities, or pressure to move quickly. Overall, working at a tech company can be rewarding for people who enjoy learning, adapting, and taking ownership, but it may be less ideal for those who prefer highly predictable work, slower-paced environments, or clearly defined responsibilities.
