Pros

Amazing benefits, compensation, and equity

Cons

New hires are bringing their broken cultures along. To work at Google, you have to learn how Google Cloud works, and it’s largely word of mouth. Depending on level, your career can stall out to where it doesn’t make sense to stay. After the layoffs employees are expected to work around the clock.

Pros

Working at a generic tech company can be a strong opportunity for someone who wants to grow quickly, work with modern tools, and contribute to products that may reach a large number of users or businesses. The environment often provides exposure to talented coworkers, cross-functional collaboration, and interesting technical or product challenges. There may also be opportunities for career advancement, competitive compensation, flexible work arrangements, and equity upside if the company performs well.

Cons

At the same time, the experience can come with tradeoffs. Priorities may shift quickly, expectations can be high, and employees may need to operate with some ambiguity around ownership, timelines, or success metrics. Depending on the team, the work may also involve tight deadlines, operational responsibilities, or pressure to move quickly. Overall, working at a tech company can be rewarding for people who enjoy learning, adapting, and taking ownership, but it may be less ideal for those who prefer highly predictable work, slower-paced environments, or clearly defined responsibilities.
