When I came onboard to Gosstech, my responsibilities include building the company's online presence from scratch (they do not have a marketing dept prior). However, the founder have this expectation of pure-doer attitude (e.g. coming up with proposals without giving a proper mrkt budget, getting quotations from various vendors "just because", etc). A lot of time wasted in sourcing for vendors and creative creations but in the end the project was abandoned last minute. Because the founder owned/ invested in other companies, I am expected to manage these external companies as well. Essentially, paying 1 person to do a 4 person job. Not to mention, all these "external" companies are varying in different industry (early childhood education, investment management, etc). In addition, the founder of the company lacks any marketing knowledge and often disregard professional opinions. He expected a drastic traffic flow and engagement purely from social media contents without investing in lead generation and outreach. From my understanding, he thinks marketing is the same as sales. Although the founder is supposed to be my reporting manager, there's an unwritten rule that I am also indirectly reporting to this individual in the company as well, this person is very involved in all the decision making for all projects even though this individual does not have any marketing knowledge yet often do what they wants as they sees fits.
