Pros
It is very rewarding work.
Cons
Although, the direct care staff and the residents aren't difficult to work with the Shelter Director and the Executive Director are not easily approachable and do not provide adequate supervision and support to their staff. The Shelter Director does not have the required knowledge of local services and the ins/outs of how to provide quality case management, whenever presented with a question, his go to answer is "I don't know". You never know his work schedule so he comes and goes whenever he pleases. It is difficult to contact the Executive Director especially if it's a personal issue. She will avoid you and if she does decide to meet with you, she is very rude and condescending. It is unfortunate the negative experience I had while being an employee here because it is meaningful work we do here, but the treatment and lack of guidance and proper training negates it all. I strongly do not recommend this organization to prospect employees. Please look else where, their turnover rate is alarmingly high. We had someone quit within hours of their shift, another within 2 weeks and in the middle of her shift, others within their probationary period. If you do decide to work here, be prepared to be overworked and underpaid.
