Pros
The quality of life in Nova Scotia is good.
Cons
Senior management are all related: CEO, COO, CFO, Director of Operations, HR are husband/wife, sister, best friend. The absolute lack of confidentiality makes reporting concerns impossible which prevents any hope of improvement. Senior management panders to the CEO's every whim for fear of losing their job. They never question or offer alternatives. The teams then have to deliver the requests even if they don't make sense. Middle management is not being replaced when they leave (no technical director, no art director, no creative director). Producers are chosen mainly based on their relationship with the CEO. As a result they are young, inexperienced and have never worked outside of HB Studios, applying the same flawed processes they have always used. Leads are chosen among the best of the programmers or artists, regardless of their actual abilities. The result is a group of overwhelmed, disengaged Leads unable to provide leadership to their team. The team members are of various levels, some good and some not. Weak employees are kept because of the difficulty of hiring people in this remote place.
