Good overall; experience varies widely by office location - Marketing Assistant HDR Employee Review

Pros

I have few negative words to share about HDR as a company. I felt top management tried hard to be open and communicative about finances, the company's future/outlook, etc. I honestly recommend HDR as a company to anyone I know who is seeking a corporate career. But, as most people in corporate roles know, it's who your direct boss is that makes the world of a difference (see my cons).

Cons

General: - "Competitive" pay, yet it doesn't match the median salary in one of the highest cost of living metro areas - Enormous, international firm (you are a tiny cog in one very large machine) - A lot of financial waste, in my opinion (extraordinary sums spent on "bagel Mondays," catered lunches, and other ludicrous perks but no willingness to increase your salary if you ask) WA state specific: I strongly caution anyone interested in joining HDR's branches in WA state, and specifically Bellevue. Management and departments are like cliques, and anyone new or who suggests a new way of doing things is excluded. I worked in the marketing department (there are many sub-departments, though, but I won't reveal which one) and was regularly excluded from lunch dates and coffee hangouts among the team members who'd been working 5+ years together. I'm certain they didn't do it on purpose, and that's part of the problem since they were so vapid as to realize how unwelcoming and cliquish they were.

Pros

Fantastic teamwork. The Coastal Group is very close and highly collaborative. There is a lot of support from upper management in the Coastal Group. Lots of projects lined up.

Cons

PTO and Sick Leave are tied together.

Pros

Excellent work place environment, plenty of continuing education opportunities, and lots of intra-disciplinary events

Cons

Corporate woes will exist anywhere at large companies, nothing special about HDR.
