Where to begin- Upper management that either pretends you do not exist or does not provide sufficient compensation for the work provided after the initial hiring. Management is so paranoid that some of their clients are going to shop, you are forced to shotgun submissions including markets that wouldn’t entertain those risks and in turn hurting our own professional relationships with underwriters by sending submissions they won’t write out of fear from the producer. There is no strategy but to overwhelm and flood the market. Producers will force you to overshop risks even for the most minimal increase as they aren’t knowledgeable enough to deal with their own clients or would rather the AE take the bullets for them when the insured complains over a $300 increase on a $5000 policy. Team leaders that can’t stand to be in the same room as each other (but are forced to be on the same team making it difficult to decipher who’s directions to follow) Producers treat you like dirt as upper management enables and entitles their behavior. Management that breeds and enables nepotism by allowing the children or ex partners with little or no experience are given high titles and it then becomes your job to teach them how to do their job. Funny that an organization as big as HUB isn’t concerned that the producers spawn or ex partners are selling insurance with no real knowledge or experience. When things go wrong while on PTO, you are still at blame. Poor communication on new initiatives from management. The producers can easily get upper management to go back on any changes, which shows you how weak the HUB management really is and even they are at the mercy of these ethically challenged producers. What’s funny is HUB bought out these producers, but the Melville management just tucks their tails between there legs when challenged by the producers. Current management is still employed (even got promoted) after almost getting shut down by the state of NY for not being able to get people to filing surplus lines properly. Any other brokerage that person would have been fired. However, the person running the Melville office is the former partner of one of the producers, so that person clearly gets a pass for failing upwards and creating a miserable and toxic environment for anyone not directly on that persons team. Said manager allowed a very prejudice individual to manage one of the real estate groups and was eventually fired 2 years later. Not for setting up people to fail and getting people fired that were of different racial, gender or religious background. That assistant vice president was eventually fired for losing too many accounts 2 years later. As the complaints or turnover from working under that individual wasn’t enough for management to care. The dress code and hygiene is only enforced on some people. One instance a colleague AE had to complain to HR that an assistant AE would come to the office smelling like he hadn’t bathed In months. Since there is no assigned seating (you have to reserve a seat on some hoteling app) you have to pray you aren’t stuck smelling the oder that reminds you of a Staten Island landfill. A different assistant AE comes in wearing shorts, but because he is assisting an AE that is buddy buddy with office management. Replaces knowledgeable people with children who either just got their license or it’s their first job out of school with no license, as they know they can give them 80k and won’t be able to leave as they have no experience. Most of the Melville claims department have quit due to the toxic environment and poor compensation. Unless you are buddy buddy with those who run that office, you will never be given advancement as they want to keep you in your place, so they do not have to train a replacement. Office management has no problem allowing the marketing team and producers to leave in the middle of the day for liquid lunches, while the rest of the retention team or other servicers are questioned for taking a “legal day off”. Some producers and management try to make you feel bad for taking a vacation or going to a doctors appointment. Producers and Marketing team members openly vaping in the office. The bonus (if you qualify) are not based on individual performance but as a whole group. So you could be penalized for another department losing accounts. Hub also recently cut commissions on new business and cross sell.

I do not recommend working in corporate for HUB, especially in TechOps. Based on my experience, the culture in that area was extremely unhealthy. I saw repeated issues with senior leadership communication, decision-making, accountability, and how employees were treated and concerns handled. Additionally, in my view, HR did not provide meaningful support when employee concerns were raised, completely downplaying the concerns at times. Employees often had to work around confusing or poor leadership decisions instead of being supported by clear direction. I also witnessed senior leadership not tolerating feedback from their employees in a healthy manor. The result was a toxic work environment where many very strong employees have left over the past year.
