Pros

Flexible working hours, especially if you have children. You get an opportunity to work side by side with some people who are great in the finance world, and learn from them. Great place to start working right out of college, you meet a lot of life long friends.

Cons

There are some people who just don’t work hard and people who just don’t seem to work at all. It’s obvious to everyone who the people are who can’t do their job well, or are flat out under qualified, or just don’t do anything but cause grief to other employees. The under-performers appear to be protected and are kept on for an extremely long time or until the employee themselves device to leave. Whichever comes first. There is no place to move up in the company unless people who hold higher positions leave. But most of the upper management are lifers and have all the best advantage in the company. Especially monetary. There is a high focus on DEI that seems to be prioritized over an individual’s performance. The focus on this makes for a highly toxic environment if you don’t belong to a specific category. It’s become a less inclusive place though the messaging states the opposite. And you are constantly reminded on this focus, even if it has nothing to do with your job functions.

Pros

Hall is a tremendous place to work and provides an excellent introduction to a broad range of asset classes. Roles and responsibilities are clearly defined, and there’s strong support for professional development and career growth. The environment is highly collegial, and you’ll work alongside smart, thoughtful people.

Cons

Upward mobility within the firm can be limited, so it’s important to think ahead about your next step—whether that’s business school, continuing in the investment industry, or pivoting to something new.
