Pros

Halow has an open & friendly culture. Senior managers work extremely hard to support both staff, volunteers and vulnerable service users to offer both the best experience possible. Great caring compassionate team members - we often had ex employees looking to return to halow which was a good sign.

Cons

Due to small size of organisation and charitable status career development offering can be limited in some teams but improvements have been made recently. Lack of accessible office is frustrating - no car park or level access for disabled people but understand funding as a charity is a factor. Local authority funding is challenging but halow always seek to do their best with salaries & benefits by benchmarking regularly to ensure they remain competitive.

Pros

Halow project was, and remains to be, a terrible place to work, where management instills a culture of fear, and hates challenge. During my time there, I never had a 121 with my manager, who would often ignore me on lunch breaks. During my interview, I was asked by a trustee if I "believed in working from home", when I said I thought it was important to be flexible to encourage accessibility, he claimed he didn't agree (may I mention here that he, himself, is a millionaire). Although they deliver excellent work and support to young people, their staff feel undervalued. The Trustee board felt self-interest ed at best, and completely ignorant as to how you run a charitable institution. I heard comments around the RNLI being "woke" (used derogatorily) because they have taken a stance to save ALL lives at sea. Finally, there have been around 4 Heads of Fundraising in the last 18 months for a reason. The lack of transparency around governance and financials was appalling. Please do not work here.

Cons

Terrible culture, poor governance, awful trustees.
