Pros
Great facility and good benefits (but takes most of your check) as they do not scale premium payments. Nice coworkers and residents
Cons
Five star facility but their Employee manual is very subjective. It is not a good place to work..at least at my facility. They say paid holidays, yes you get paid but you still work..you do not get off. They say vacation after six months, yes but only if you can find someone to substitute for you. I submitted my request months in advance...it was never approved as they knew they could find no one to sit in my place. They say you can accrue sick leave, yes but good luck keeping your check from getting docked when out. It also took five months to get paid for my first two weeks of employment. You have to buy a uniform and it took months to get reimbursed. They say you get lunch breaks, yes but only if you can find someone to break you. No one wants to sit in the Receptionist/Concierge/ Admin Asst. chair. Many times I got no lunch and considered myself fortunate to get away to go to bathroom. You are required to get up and go and greet all that come into the lobby, but still answer the never stopping phone by third ring...and dont forget to work the Bistro on the other side of the lobby in addition. They say you get "two ten minute" breaks a day if possible. The key word is "possible". After working almost a year ..I never got a single one. The lame, written response from their management..."sorry we don't "guarantee" breaks". If unfortunate to work as the Concierge / Receptionist / Administrative Asst., be advised you will be drinking from a firehose. You receive all calls, all resident's and family complaints, maintenance issues, all "administrative tasks" that can be given to you by anyone in the facility in addition to handling medical and prescription messages, etc. The ATMOS heating bill was not paid for over several months, and that was problematic. You will be the only visible person up front and in the beginning of each day...the ONLY front person on the property. I hope the other positions here are not as bad, but this is the ultimate dumping ground. You get no training and are simply thrown into it to figure it out yourself.. Extremely stressful and even more so when you have to deal with the problems caused by the facility's multiple resignations. It all rolls downhill here. Take a look at the job requirements, is there one longer and more detailed than this? The last receptionist resigned after only a week when moved to the day shift. Too many here vote with their feet and resign all too quickly. The rampant turnover seems to be valid confirmation. Over five directors left within months not counting hourly employees. Complaints are made to HR in their Corporate Office, but nothing changes. It is burn and turn where you don't even get your own email address as they figure you will not last long. Hopefully not all the HRA facilities are in such turmoil as this one. I spent almost twenty years as a flight crew member, but this position was off the charts. If you can handle all the above then Harbor Chase is for you. That all said, the facility itself is Five Stars. If applying for a clinical position it hopefully is more organized as the elder residents deserve only the highest level of care and not the chaos that exits in the front office and from management that is more concerned with FaceBook postings.
