Pros
The Harbor School is a unique, very special place to be on a daily basis. It is a small independent school, so everyone who works at the school has ownership over their roles and the school as a whole, meaning there is a lot of freedom to set goals and engage in creative activities and directions if they are beneficial to the learning environment and you will be responsible for co-stewardship of the school. Seeing the children loving learning and loving to come to school everyday is an amazing benefit, and being there for multiple years to see the impact the school has on each child is incredible. Though small, the school places high value on maintaining a full benefit package for employees, including medical, dental, retirement, life insurance, and long-term and short-term disability coverage. The school is staffed with people who are dedicated, hard-working, fun-loving, adventurous, who genuinely care about what they are doing every day.
Cons
As a small, independent school which rightfully prides itself on offering opportunities to children from all economic situations, there are competing priorities for every dollar, which led to small annual increases. Leadership always took the greater brunt of any of the belt-tightening, so it felt really fair overall.
