Pros

If you're thinking of joining Harper James you need to let go of any preconceptions you might have about working at a law firm. It's more like being at a tech scale-up - we work in a really agile way, collaborate across teams, are genuinely passionate about being the best we can be for our clients and each other, and people are treated like adults. Decisions are made quickly and there's absolutely clarity on our goals. The flexibility for remote workers is invaluable to me as a parent.

Cons

If you're not used to working remotely you need to consider how you'll manage that - for many of us it works really well, we have daily stand-ups and check-ins with team members, plus regular visits to HQ. From a personal perspective, managing lunch hours and time after work is important to achieve balance and time away from the desk.

Pros

What I love is that Harper James isn't afraid to evolve and grow - constantly looking at our people policies, benefits and ways of working to ensure people are at the heart of everything we do, whilst a 10 year+ established company we work more like a tech start up - very progressive!!!! I think a great culture here exists, and people are genuinely warm and empathetic. I enjoy interacting with everyone I interact with. You get a lot of autonomy to manage your workload and time as you see fit, and a company with that amount of trust in it's people is a winner for me personally.

Cons

Sometimes, our people find remote working hard, even though it's such an amazing positive benefit for the teams that can work remotely. I would just ask any potential candidates for remote roles to fully review and understand what it means to be a part of a remote team that only meets up a few times a year. Think of the time and money you save on commuting, but put strategies in place to help you prioritise your own mental health, build your network of friends here (and you will, everyone is lovely).

Pros

I've been working at Harper James Solicitors for a year, and overall, it’s been a very positive experience. One of the standout aspects of working here is the people. The team is not only talented and experienced but also incredibly supportive. There’s a genuine sense of collaboration across all levels, and it’s easy to feel like part of the team, even when working remotely. The firm's unique service offering is another highlight. Harper James has really innovated in the way it delivers legal services, which keeps the work interesting and gives you exposure to different types of clients and industries. This variety allows you to expand your skills and knowledge in ways that are hard to find elsewhere. In terms of professional development, the hands-on training is excellent and there’s always support when needed. Senior lawyers are approachable and willing to help, which makes the learning process smoother. If you’re looking to develop your career, this is a firm that invests in your growth. The company also knows how to have fun. Company events are a regular thing and provide a great opportunity to connect with colleagues in a more relaxed setting. Incentives like performance bonuses, team outings and recognition for hard work make you feel valued and motivated.

Cons

If I had to point out a downside, Although the company does offer understanding and support where needed, the work load can be demanding. That is to be expected with most legal firms. Also, with many colleagues working remotely, although we spend time speaking via phone and video calls, we only get to see each other face to face a handful of times across the year at company events.
